I recently had a conversation with a new client that completely changed how I think about digital marketing and SEO when building websites hence forth. When I asked how they found my website design services, their response blew me away:
"My assistant searched by entering our example websites into ChatGPT, asking it to recommend Wix designers with a similar style. Your name came up in that process, which is how we got connected."
Let that sink in for a moment. This client didn't find me through Google ads, social media, or traditional SEO. They found me because an AI tool knew enough about my work to recommend me as a good fit for their specific needs. I am not going to lie to you, I got up out of my chair and did a little dance when I read this email.
It CLEARLY, and quite literally pays off to make your website ai-friendly. So, I thought I would share more about how we got here- and how you can too. PS: If you don't believe me, here is the actual email in my actual inbox- this stuff is not BS!

The Way People Search is Changing – Fast
We're witnessing a fundamental shift in how people discover products and services. Instead of typing keywords into Google and scrolling through pages of results, people are having conversations with AI assistants. They're describing what they want, showing examples, and asking for personalized recommendations. The LLM's sole purpose is to provide accurate answers, fast. (LLM stands for Large Language Model, an advanced artificial intelligence system trained on massive amounts of text data to understand, generate, and interact in human-like language. AKA: AI.)
This isn't some distant future trend – it's happening right now. People are using ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and other AI tools as their go-to research assistants. Myself included. And if your business isn't "readable" by these AI systems, you're becoming invisible to a growing segment of potential customers.
Why This Matters for Your Business
Traditional SEO focused on ranking for specific keywords. AI search is different. When someone asks an AI tool for recommendations, it's drawing from its vast knowledge to make informed suggestions based on context, style, expertise, and fit – just like a human expert would.
The businesses that thrive in this new digital landscape won't just be the ones with the best Google rankings. They'll be the ones that AI systems can confidently recommend because their online presence clearly communicates who they are, what they do, and what makes them special.
Making Your Website AI-Friendly: A Beginner's Guide
The good news? You don't need to be a tech wizard to optimize your website for AI discovery. If you've been with me for a while then you know I'm a Wix super-fan, so I have included some WIX tips with each step.
Here are practical steps you can take to make your website LLM friendly today...
1. Write Like You're Talking to a Smart Friend
AI tools understand natural language, so write your website content the way you'd explain your business to a friend over coffee. I'll use my web design business for example:
Instead of: "We provide comprehensive digital solutions leveraging cutting-edge methodologies."
Try: "We help small businesses create websites that actually bring in customers."
Wix Tip: Use your site's About page to tell your story in plain English. AI systems love context and personality.
2. Be Specific About What You Do
Don't make AI tools guess what you offer. Be crystal clear about your services, your style, and your ideal clients.
Include phrases like:
"We specialize in..."
"Perfect for businesses that want..."
"Our style is best described as..."
"We're especially good at helping..."
Wix Tip: Create a dedicated Services page with detailed descriptions. Use Wix's text editor to add clear headings and bullet points.
3. Showcase Your Work with Context
Don't just display images - explain them. AI systems can't see images the same way humans do, but they can read your descriptions.
For example, for each portfolio piece or case study, include:
What type of business it was for
What problem you solved
What style or approach you used
What results you achieved
Wix Tip: Use the Wix Gallery feature and make sure to fill out the description field for each image. This text helps AI understand your capabilities.
4. Use Your Real Business Name Consistently
Make sure your business name appears clearly and consistently across your website. AI systems need to know what to call you when making recommendations.
Wix Tip: Include your business name in your site title, header, footer, and contact information. Use Wix's SEO settings to set consistent business information.
5. Create Content That Answers Questions
Think about the questions your ideal clients ask, then create content that answers them. This helps AI systems understand your expertise.
Content ideas:
"How to choose the right designer for your project"
"What to expect during the design process"
"Common mistakes businesses make with their websites"
Wix Tip: Use Wix's blog feature to publish helpful articles. Even one post per month can make a big difference.
6. Include Client Testimonials with Details
Generic praise doesn't help AI systems understand what makes you special. Encourage specific testimonials that mention your process, style, or the results you delivered.
Better testimonials include:
What type of project it was
What you did differently
Specific results or improvements
Why they'd recommend you for similar projects
Wix Tip: Add testimonials throughout your site, not just on one page. Use Wix's testimonial widget to display them attractively.
7. Connect Your Online Presence
Make sure your website links to your social profiles, and vice versa. AI systems look at your entire online presence to understand your expertise and reputation.
Wix Tip: Use Wix's social media integration features to connect your accounts and display your latest posts.
8. Keep Your Information Current
AI systems favor up-to-date information. Regularly update your website with new projects, services, or business information.
Simple updates:
Add new portfolio pieces
Update your bio or about page
Refresh your service descriptions
Post occasional blog updates
Wix Tip: Set a monthly reminder to review and update at least one section of your site.
The Bottom Line
The businesses that succeed in the age of AI search won't necessarily be the loudest or have the biggest marketing budgets. They'll be the ones that clearly communicate their value in ways that both humans and AI systems can understand and appreciate.
Your website isn't just a digital brochure anymore – it's your representative in countless AI-powered conversations happening every day. Make sure it's telling your story well.
The client who found me through ChatGPT didn't just stumble across my name by accident. They found me because my online presence gave AI systems enough clear, specific information to make a confident recommendation. And that's exactly the kind of discovery you want for your business.
The revolution is already here. The question isn't whether AI will change how people find your services – it's whether you'll be ready when they do.

As always, I am here if you need me!
